Potty training can be a trying and frustrating time for you. One of the obstacles you may need to overcome is dealing with your diaper laundry once your little one starts to use the potty. Until they are fully potty trained, you will most likely be using a diaper or trainer for naps and nighttime. Accidents will also happen in underwear or trainers. You'll need to wash these items, but what's the best way?
The problem is you won't have enough dirty diapers, trainers or underwear (hopefully!) to follow your typical diaper wash routine. You'll need to make a few adjustments. Here are some suggestions:
1. Rinse! When accidents happen immediately rinse the soiled item. This will prevent ammonia build up while the item is sitting and waiting for wash day.
2. Wash with other laundry! It's okay to wash soiled trainers, diapers, or underwear with your other laundry. I suggest washing them with towels because you can wash in hot water. I throw the soiled items in the washer first for a quick rinse cycle, then add my other laundry.
3. Simplify your diaper needs! If you are still needing to use diapers for naps and nighttime, try flats and covers. They are much easier to hand wash if needed and are easier to care for if you end up going longer than 2 or 3 days between washing.
