How to choose a cloth diaper safe detergent

There's a lot of discussion about what detergent to use on your cloth diapers. The detergent works for one person may not work for you or your baby. Here's a guide to help you find a detergent that is safe for cloth diapers. These are ingredients you should generally avoid when choosing a detergent:

  • Enzymes
  • Dyes
  • Perfumes
  • Optical Brightners
  • Fabric Softeners
  • Wrinkle Guards

A few notes:

  • Powdered detergents should be dissolved before adding your diapers.
  • Free and Clear detergents can cause build-up which can lead to leaks.
  • Powdered detergents are best for hard water.
  • If you have hard water, consider adding Calgon to your wash routine.

Knickernappies recommends the following detergents:

  • Allen's Naturally
  • Country Save
  • Mountain Green
  • Tide
  • Tide-Free
  • Planet
  • BumGenius
  • Tiny Bubbles
  • Rockin' Green

Have you found a detergent that works well in your routine?
