Tell us a little about yourself and your family-Soft and Cozy Baby is located in Baltimore, MD and we just opened a B&M! I have a 21 month old in cloth. I am a midwife as well so my store is kind of "on the side" as my hobby but I love interacting with families and helping them choose cloth. I also love when they come back and watching their babies grow up!

How'd you get started cloth diapering and what made you decide to open your own business? When my baby was born we started with a diaper service. After 2 weeks I knew I could do it myself. I also knew there were much cuter diapers out there than just prefolds. I started doing research and couldn't find a local store that carried cloth. I bought my first stash online, but it was very overwhelming to choose. When my baby was 4 months old I opened my own store out of my house. People could come in and see and feel the diapers before buying. I told my husband I'd start small with just a couple diapers but it was so much fun it kept growing and growing! Soon it took over the dining room and then the basement. We knew we had to move it out of the house soon!

What do you like best about being in the cloth diaper industry? I love meeting parents concerned about their family's health and the environment. I also like being able to help people save money by not literally throwing it away on disposables. I like educating and helping families find a good cloth system that works for them and their lives.

What are your favorite Knickernappies products and why? I like the one-sized diaper a lot. I love the side-snaps. I usually dont recommend one-size diapers but Knickernappies OS has a great fit and my son's not outgrowing it like he is some other OS brands. I also LOVE the SuperDo. That is my nightime go-to. We stuff it in a Happy Hempy with fleece or wool cover and it's bulletproof. I think it's an ingenious design. I always recommend it for nighttime use.

How was the overall review of product, fit, features, ease of use, how you like this product compared to other brands-I have been using the KN OS diapers since my daughter was 4 months old and she is now 12 months old. These were the first pocket diapers I used and I loved them from the start.

The fit is great because there are so many options for snapping. We have had minor leaks especially when she is laying down, but nothing major. My diapers came with both the small and large microfiber inserts and I just recently started using the large ones and sometimes put the smaller one in also for nighttime backup. I would say my favorite feature are the snap closures because I had tried bumgenius 3.0 and in only 4 months the velcro would not stick properly causing scratches on babies belly.


Would you recommend the Knickernappies OS to others? I would and have recommended the Knickernappies onesize to friends, I think they are very easy to use and wash and baby is very happy.

How to fight the funk!

What's one of a cloth diapering mama's greatest fears? Stinky diapers of course! After all, those disposables can always be dumped in the garage, but the cloth diapers have to sit in the diaper pail right there in the house until washing day! Battling the smell takes trial and error, but we learned a few ways to keep it in check and we hope this will help you on the fast track to successfully eliminating diaper odors.

• Wash often. Wash no longer than every third day and make sure you aren't washing too many dirty diapers per load. Too many diapers for a load means you need to wash more often.
• Use a Diaper Sprayer. While certainly not a necessity, we think it really helps. Also, keeping a separate Doorknob Diaper Pail in the bathroom so you’re not carrying dripping diapers from room to room. (It’s best to line dry the diaper pail liners, too. So having more than one is convenient.)
• Diaper pail deodorizer – Use Fluff Dust (California Fields, which smells lovely!). If you run out, you can make something similar by using baking soda and a few drops of essential oils. Whenever you have a smelly diaper, you can sprinkle a bit in the diaper pail after dropping in the diaper.
• Speaking of essential oils, you can also sprinkle a few drops on the fabric swatch in the liners after every wash. A personal favorite is lavender.
• Wash with Bac-Out, sparingly, as needed. If not rinsed out completely, it can cause serious irritation. Use two teaspoons (or less) in the rinse, wash once with detergent and again without detergent. Then do a couple of extra rinses. (We have very hard water and a front-loader.) It’s miraculous in its ability to battle that diaper smell, though, so it’s worth it every once in a while.
  

With a little planning and some preventative tips and tricks, you can avoid a house of diaper smells just as well as (or better than) if you used disposable diapers.

Tell us about yourself, your family, and how you get started with cloth diapers-
I am a working Mother of four. I work a full time job in the Insurance industry, and run Green Pixie Baby from home. Lilliana is our youngest and is fifteen months old. We currently have three locations in Franklin, TN and surrounding areas.

We are major cloth diaper advocates. The advocacy side is what drives me. We have approached all the daycares in our immediate area and gotten them to approve cloth diapers at their facilities! We tell our customers in surrounding areas to let us know if they have a school that they would like us to talk to. We want more babies in cloth diapers, especially Knickernappies!

How did you get started cloth diapering and what made you decide to start your own business? Our family lives a very "green" lifestyle, so when we learned that we were having an addition to our family we decided to go the cloth diaper route. We did research online and really found limited availability in our area. I felt like cloth diapering parents didn't have an advocate on their side in my area.

We decided to start Green Pixie Baby, we opened on 5/5/09 with our Lilliana as our inspiration and logo. We offer free consultations, host baby showers, have a gift registry, and will advocate for cloth diapers at daycares, and hospitals. We specialize in American made baby products so that is another great reasons to be a fan of Knickernappies!

What do you like most about being in the cloth diaper industry? We have been blessed to meet some really wonderful families during our journey with cloth diapers. Comparing the sizes of Knickernappies OS to BumGenius OS

It's true, not all onesize diapers are the same. We all know that "birth through potty training" is not some universal magic concept that encompasses all babies worldwide. Some babies are born 5lbs or less, and some are born 10lbs. Some kids potty train at 30lbs and some at 45lbs. What do you like best about being in the cloth diaper industry? As fun as it is, it's a lot of work! How was the overall review of product, fit, features, ease of use, how you like this product compared to other brands-I have a 7 month old that is almost 23lbs, chunky. These diapers fit him better than any of the other pocket diapers I have. I have found myself wanting to wash the diapers every time theses 2 get dirty because I like them so much. I purchased them through CottonTails, now known as Fluff Envy.

Abram wears these on the medium setting and could easily be there for several more months. We have several Happy Heiny's and Fuzzi Bunz but they are not a trim on him. I feel like he can mover more in the Knickernappies then any other diaper.

My favorite feature is the trimness of this diaper and the snaps! I love love love the side snaps! I can't wait to buy more!!!

LoopyDo Insert-We have 3 of these inserts and Abram is an extremely heavy wetter(can wet through a sposies in 2 hours) he can wear his KN with the LoopyDo for 3 to 4 hours easy without leaking. Even in the jumperoo.

SuperDo Insert-When we first started cloth diapering I was double and triple stuffing micro fiber and he would still wake up wet. He sleeps from about 9 til 7 am. I can put one SuperDo on him and his cloths are still dry in the morning. I also feel like he doesn't have a huge towel stuffed between his legs. This insert is so trim for an overnight insert.

I would definitely recommend these diapers and inserts to anyone!

If it's Hemp can I smoke it? This seems like a silly question, people really aren't going to try and roll up their hemp t-shirt or diaper and smoke it, but in theory they wonder "Are hemp and marijuana the same thing? The truth is that hemp plants and marijuana plants are NOT the same.

Both the marijuana plant and hemp plant are of the same species but must be grown to produce entirely different plants to yield the desired results. Marijuana plants are desired for their leaves and/or buds and are therefore grown to be "bushy." Hemp plants grown for their fiber and edible seeds are cultivated to be stalky plants with very few leaves. Finally, marijuana results in a crop with high levels of THC while hemp plants contain only trace amounts.

What makes Hemp perfect for cloth diapers and clothing? Well as far back as Christopher Columbus people have been using hemp because of it's superior strength and durability compared to other fibers. It is one the fastest growing renewable energy sources and requires little to no pesticides and no herbicides, unlike cotton, which makes it a super eco-alternative. It also produces more protein, oil, and fiber than any other plant on earth.

Hemp is also superior in it's absorbency compared to other fibers. When compared to cotton it was able to absorb at least 50% more liquid and required much less mass which makes it a super absorbent AND trim alternative.

Hemp is also naturally anti-microbial! This provides a natural protection against mold, mildew, undesired bacteria and other fungus. This is a huge perk and a valuable trait, especially for cloth diapers and inserts.

Tell us about yourself, your family, and how you get started with cloth diapers-My name is Julie and I am a mama to three kiddos. My daughter is 6yrs old and my identical twin sons are 3yrs old. My husband is a local firefighter/paramedic in our area and I am a sahm turned wahm.

I got turned on to cloth by an online friend who recommended I give them a try. My sons went though our gifted supply of disposables by the time they were 4-5months old and we were going to have to start buying diapers for the first time since their birth.

I purchased some gently used pocket diapers from my online friend and I kid you not, 2 days later I was obsessed. I felt like I had an epiphany! I must open my own cloth diaper business! My husband thought I had gone crazy but he went along with it, what choice did he have, and here we are today. Earth Angels Diaper Co is 3 yrs old this month! Yippee!

What do you like most about being in the cloth diaper industry? I just love helping moms get started with cloth diapers and I love that often times cloth diapers are the beginning to a greener lifestyle for most and often leads to them making other eco-friendly changes in their household. I also love the fact that pretty much all the companies I deal with are run by mom-preneurs and I love that when I succeed it's helping them succeed.

What are your favorite Knickernappies products and why? Well the Knickernappies sized pockets were some of my favorites to see on my boys when they were in cloth, the fit was awesome and super trim and I loved that they didn't mess with the side snaps and try to take off their diapers.

I'd also have to say I am of course, super impressed with the Super Do. I love that when I have a customer with a heavy wetting baby who is having leak issues, or just can't find the right overnight solution, that I can recommend the SuperDo and be 100% confident that she will love it.

How was the overall review of product, fit, features, ease of use, how you like this product compared to other brands- I love the fit of this product! This diaper fits my baby (almost 9 months) and toddler (2 1/2 years) both wonderfully! I have tried many other versions of one-sized pockets and these are, without a doubt, my favorite one-size pockets.
The Knickernappies one-size is a generously cut diaper overall compared to many other one-size diapers. It has a nice high rise which is good for belly sleepers in the front, and super-duper poopers in the back. The snaps are good quality and the rise stays snapped unlike some other brands of snap diapers I have tried. There are two sets of snaps for the waist which will accommodate small bellied babies with chunky thighs or big bellied babies with less chunky thighs. The five snap setting around the waist is wonderful and makes for a very versatile "room to grow" fit. The scoop under the belly for the babies with big milk bellies is genius.

I have washed our Knickernappies OS many times and the lining remains super soft. The cover and LoopyDos also dry very quickly (much faster than the thicker inserts with most other diapers) which is very good for the electric bill if you dry in the dryer and the drying time if you hang dry. The inserts, whether microfiber or LoopyDos are very trim. This is one of the trimmest but most absorbent diapers we have.

I also really like the color choices available, especially the rich chocolate brown!

What's your favorite feature? I have two favorite features: The fit and the LoopyDos! I really appreciate getting two of the LoopyDos. I use the large one overnight for my baby and both the large and small one for our toddler. I do not need to spend additional money on inserts, doublers, whatever to prevent leaks during the night....and I really appreciate that! It's definitely more cost effective than buying a cheaper diaper but having to buy more inserts or doublers.

Would you recommend this product to others? YES, and I have!
