Spread the word about cloth diapers in your community!

For many moms getting started with cloth can be a one-woman expedition into the online world of cloth diapering.  There may not be any local retailers in your area or at least you may not know of any, and you might not even know anyone else locally who uses cloth diapers.  Therefore you've found you fit in best with the online cloth diapering community.

The problem, it's no fun being alone or feeling like you're alone.  So why not start spreading the word about cloth?  In the process I bet you'll find that you've got a lot more cloth diapering families in your area than you thought and you may just discover a retailer or two.

Where do you start?
A great place to start is Meetup.com.  You can search for other groups in your area with similar interests and you may even find a cloth diaper specific meetup group.  If you're really motivated and determined you can start your own Meetup, it's quick, easy, and a great way to connect with others and make friends in your area.

Do a google search online for moms groups or organizations in your area.  Many local churches have moms groups.  Look for a local Attachment Parenting, Natural Moms or LaLecheLeague/Breastfeeding group.  If you aren't aware of any contact your local Lactation Consultant or Midwife and ask if they know of any in your area.

Find a local retailer.
Even if you don't have a local cloth diaper retailer who has a physical store or showroom it doesn't mean they don't sell locally.  Online retailers usually also sell locally, host diaper parties, do cloth diaper classes and demos and are generally pretty willing and eager to promote cloth diapering in their areas.

Visit the cloth diaper manufacturers websites and look for their "Retailer Locator."  Here is our Knickernappies Retailer Locator.  If you don't find anyone local through our locator try another manufacturer.  Not all retailers sell the same brands so you may find one by searching through the various sites.

Schedule a Cloth Diaper Demo or "101" Class.
Once you've found a local cloth diaper retailer to work with see where you can schedule a demo.  Usually moms groups and mops clubs like to have an occasional speaker or demonstration and most likely they'd love to have a cloth diaper lesson, especially with the renewed interest in saving money and going green.

Can't find a group that would like a demo?  Schedule one for yourself and invite your friends and family?  Having a baby shower?  Invite your local retailer to speak at your shower and do a demo for your friends and family.  It's a great way to promote cloth, break up the monotony of a baby shower, and show your friends and family what modern cloth diapers are all about and why you're interested in them.

If you don't have a local retailer in your area then fear not, chances are one will pop up eventually. Just keep checking back with the manufacturers lists of retailers and I am sure that you'll find one sooner than later!
